Many people have claimed they have had much
greater success with their Crittergetter by allowing their engine
to run for a longer period of time than what is suggested in our
instructions (up to 30 minutes and beyond). The length of time
you leave your vehicle running with the Crittergetter connected
is solely dependant on how much heat is generated by your
tailpipe. If you notice any discoloration of the hose or strange
smell around the point of connection – immediately shut off
your vehicle. Some folks may find they could leave their
Crittergetter connected until their vehicle runs out of gas!
One of our customers from Texas sent us this neat
trick - extreme fumigation overkill – Apparently he
had some of his industrial sized gopher gassers (these are huge
commercial grade gassers – they make the normal ones look
like pip-squeaks) left over from his previous fumigation
attempts. After becoming a little aggravated with a particularly
persistent pest, he stuffed one of these gassers down the hole
then rammed the Crittergetter in behind it to force the gas down
the burrow. Haven’t heard from him ever since.
When we ship our Crittergetters, they are wound
up neatly in a pretty little package. This does not always remain
the case. The easiest way we have found to re-roll the
Crittergetter after it has been used is to wrap it around a small
piece of broom handle. Or you can toss the whole thing into a bag
– done!
Overwhelmed with critter mounds? Don’t know
where to start? Flatten out all the mounds or cover any burrow
openings and watch for new activity. Use the Crittergetter on
anything new.
A customer from California found his applicator
wasn’t long enough for many of his needs, so he replaced it
with a longer applicator. Many of the Crittergetter parts are
available at your local hardware store.
When you buy your garden trowel for clearing your
burrow openings; purchase the thin type. The thin shovel fits
better in most burrow openings where the wider types seem to
create more damage in creating an overly large hole.
Many people, especially
those with newer cars, may not need to separate the lightweight
hose of the Homeowner Crittergetter from their exhaust pipe with
the coupler as shown in the instructions. Simply slide the heat
resistant hose section onto the exhaust pipe first then slide the
lightweight Crittergetter hose over it and clamp them both to the
exhaust pipe with one clamp. Please see our Homeowner
Crittergetter Slideshow or Gallery for examples and clarification.
Tailpipe get a little warmer than your
Crittergetter can stand? Use a section of flexible aluminum dryer
vent pipe (available at most hardware stores). Original
Crittergetter users will need a
Coupler to connect the dryer vent pipe to their
Crittergetter. Homeowner Crittergetter users should use the dryer
vent pipe in place of their section of Original Crittergetter
pipe.
Critters that are "surface tunneling"
can be a tough nut to crack. The most effective place to use your
Crittergetter, in this situation, is where the surface tunnel
disappears and turns back underground. Not sure which end is
which? Blast both!
